3. Quail Bird Farming: If you are hearing about quail bird for the first time or you have heard about it before but you have not taken step to tap into this great business opportunity, you are forgiven. Quail bird popularly known as Aparo in Yoruba language (If you know the name in Hausa or Igbo you can write in the comment below) is one of the ancient bird which has a lot of health benefit. Quail bird farming is part of Poultry farming and they also lay eggs like chicks but it is not common in this part of the world. The meat and the egg of this bird has been reported to cure many diseases such as arthritis, tuberculosis and other 30 diseases. Quail bird rearing is five times better than chicken and turkey rearing, and I assure you that a person with 400 quail laying bird is better off than a person with 2000 laying chickens. That fact is due to the following reasons:

  • 2000 quail bird will feed on the same amount of feed that will be taken by 400 chickens.
  • They have immunity against many diseases, this implies that you don’t need to spend money on vaccine and that the business has a low risk.
  • Quail bird mature earlier and start laying eggs after 7-8 weeks.
  • Quail farming requires less labour.
  • The space require for rearing Quail bird is small.
  • They lay a greater no of egg of between 250 and 280 per year.

With just 20,000 naira you are good to go with this business provided you have a space in your house where you can put the cage. With that 20,000 naira you will be getting a daily return of between #1500 and #2000 after the bird has started laying egg. If you have enough money, you can go into large scale production as this can turn you into millionaire within the limited possible time.

Where Is The Real Estate Business And Investment Opportunity in Nigeria

Where Is The Real Estate Business And Investment Opportunity

Here are some of the areas you can invest and make your own money without tears. As you grow in the business, you can expand your portfolio or start big straight away. In this article, I will only deal with real estate categories that are peculiar to Nigeria, especially for beginner real estate entrepreneur.

1. Land Flipping – This means buying of land and quickly reselling it for profit. This is one of the smartest investment in the industry and requires no effort whatsoever. Just your money and knowledge and you are good to go. You will need substantial amount if you want to make hundreds of millions but you can start small by buying just one plot and grow to buying tens of plots and acres of lands and keep selling all year round.

2. Open Space Leasing – This works in a simple and unique way. Buy a property in a good location and lease it out for makeshift use. You can lease it to churches or business that wants to develop a makeshift outlet such as car wash and mechanics. They will be paying you monthly rantage while the property still appreciates for future sell. It is like borrowing money for someone and get paid double interest and still get your money back.

3. Real Estate Agency – This one is the simplest and easiest of them all. It is not investment per say but service rendering. How it works? Go round and look for properties to let and for sale, advertise your service and help secure clients for the property owners, you will be paid percentage as commission base on the amount the property is sold or rented. You can start with little or no money and if you are smart enough, you will grow to become a giant realtor.

4. Property Development – This is where the big guys in the industry are doing their stuffs. They acquire properties in nice locations, develop it into luxury apartments, commercial structures, etc and sell at a very high profit margin. If you spend N200 million to develop a property, be sure you are going to sell for N400million.

5. House/Office Rent – Build a house and put it up for rent, get paid all year for a life time. That is exactly how this work but there is much more to that than I just stated, watch out for detailed articles on this soon.

How To Clean No-Wax or Linoleum Floors

If time and traffic eventually dull the glossy top layer, you may want to add a floor finish or wax to restore the shine. Choose any good commercial floor polish or try a self-polishing, metal-interlock floor finish available from a janitorial supply. Traffic areas may need finish applied more often than the rest of the floor.

Things You’ll Need

  • Vacuum or Broom
  • Soft Mop
  • Bucket
  • Water
  • Dish Soap
  • Nylon-backed Scrub Sponge
  • Floor Polish (optional for dull floors)

How To Do It

  1. Regularly sweep or vacuum floors to remove loose dust and particles. This will keep soil from wearing away the surface quickly. For tough spots, use a nylon-backed scrub sponge.
  2. If needed, add a floor polish to restore the shine. Any good commercial floor polish will do; or, try a self-polishing, metal-interlock floor finish available from a janitorial supply store. Traffic areas may need finish applied more often than the rest of the floor. It’s a good idea to keep doormats at all the entrances to your home, as they will catch much of the dirt that could eventually damage your floors.

Cleaning Product of June- Proudly Naija

We are so sorry that we haven’t updated you with our favorite cleaning product since January!!! But we are here now so here it goes!

So everyone in Nigeria has been affected by the Foreign exchange debacle one way or the other. This has caused increased prices on some of our favorite products. Lilac Clean has chosen to follow the Proudly Nigerian movement by using some of our Local Products. We are always trying new products to recommend to our clients who cannot always get a professional visit from us.  This month’s favorite product is LB Deep Action Cream Cleaner.

We got introduced to this product when we were shopping for CIF cream cleaner and discovered the massive price increase due to foreign exchange. CIF is fantastic I mean it helps soften heavy duty dirt in a a couple of minutes and makes our cleaning very easy. Once the product has been put on the surface it should be allowed to set for 2-15 minutes depending on the severity of the stains, it is then wiped away with a microfiber cloth or a scoring pad for tough stains. Its perfect for kitchen cookers, bathroom sinks and bath tops. We also use Vim cream cleaner from time to time which is also an import and has experienced massive price increase as well. So we after this discovery we decided to try a product we had been overlooking for a while, the Nigerian made LB Deep Action Cream Cleaner and we are pleased to say that it performed beyond our expectations. It was as effective as CIF or VIM and also has a nice fragrance that will complement any freshener you already use. And do you know what is better its about 45-50% cheaper than CIF depending on store you go to.

How to Prevent Indoor Pests

YESSSSSS! we hate pests too and we are here to help you reduce your home pest infestation with the following tips below.

1. The Oldest Trick in the Book: Clean up After All Meals

You’ve likely known this trick since childhood. Didn’t your mother always tell you to make sure you clean up after yourself in the kitchen? Well, this was for good reason: to keep those pesky critters at bay!

Your food smells appealing not only to you, but also to pests looking to make your kitchen their fully-catered home for the summer. Take preventative measures and clean up right away after cooking and eating. Don’t tempt fate!

2. Use Your Refrigerator and Freezer More

Hotter temperatures in your kitchen can make food perish a lot quicker than it normally does in moderate temperatures. Be sure to use your refrigerator and freezer a lot more during the warmer months. Not only does this prolong the life of your food, but also it acts as a barrier that keeps the scent of your food out of the open airs and keeps pests away.

 3. Take Out the Trash Regularly

This is another “mother knows best” concept. If you ever had this chore as a kid, you’ve hopefully developed a habit of doing this regularly. Allowing your trash to sit in the kitchen and garbage cans will only send out invitations far and wide to pests to come on over and feast.

bonus: In addition to regularly taking out the trash, you can go the extra mile. Use a trash can with a lid to prevent odors from escaping and enticing bugs and other critters. Also, seal up all containers, such as juice cartons and sauce jars, before tossing them into the trash or recycling bin to further prevent the unnecessary buildup of old food waste on your receptacle.

4. Clean out Your Kitchen Cabinets

Inspect and clean your kitchen cabinets on a regular basis. Many of us are guilty of holding on to boxes of food without realizing they expired several months (sometimes years) prior to their disposal. Cleaning out your cabinets can rid your kitchen of unnecessary clutter and help you inspect for any exposed foods and crumbs, which are a pest’s biggest treat. Plus neglecting to clean your kitchen could mean you’ve got dead bugs and/or feces deep within the clutter—ew! So, this tip is all-around beneficial.

5. Fix Leaky Faucets

Insects and pests, like us, need water to survive. Thus, a leaky faucet can be like finding an oasis on a desert island for them! Prevent the temptation for pest invasion and fix the leaky faucetsin your kitchen and bathrooms.

6. Clear Your Drains of Leftover Food

If you have a built-in garbage disposal in your kitchen, be sure to regularly clean out the mechanism of leftover food. No, we don’t suggest you dismantle the appliance to clean it (this can be a little hazardous). You can clean out your waste disposal, and all other drains, with ingredients that already live in your kitchen.

7. Go Au Natural with Essential Oils

Essential oils are powerful and effective at keeping bugs out of your home, and they have an added benefit: they smell absolutely fabulous! You can get extra crafty and make your own bug sprayto mist throughout your house this summer. All you need to do is combine 2 1/2 teaspoons of essential oil and 1 cup of grain alcohol (vodka will do the trick) into a clean spray bottle.

Here is a list of essential oils you can use to keep certain pests at bay.

  • Citronella or lemon eucalyptus to scare away mosquitoes.
  • Geranium to shoo away flies and mosquitoes.
  • Lavender or lemongrass to keep mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers, fleas, and flies away.
  • Patchouli oil turns away gnats.
  • Peppermint doesn’t smell appealing to spiders and ants.
  • Rosemary thwarts fleas and ticks.
  • Tea tree oil to stop mosquitoes and ants in their tracks.

8. Use Peppermint Mints to Turf Out Mice

It can be very distressing if mice have found their way into your home. And of course, it’s crucial to get rid of them as quickly as possible. There’s a quick, low-cost solution that can be drive the little rodents away… Altoids!

If you have peppermint Altoids on hand, you can forget picking up the phone and calling pest control. Use the peppermint Altoids as a natural mouse repellent, as the little critters cannot tolerate the smell of peppermint and will soon turn to find food and sanctuary in a peppermint-free environment!

9. Spruce Up Your Home with Some Routine Maintenance

Did you know that mice can squeeze through a hole as small as a pencil? Well, you do now! Take the time to seal up any cracks around the home and use glue or caulking to seal any cracks. This can be done by you or a professional, and doing so prevents entrance for a variety of unwanted critters from visiting.

What is so Difficult about Moping?

Lilac Clean

Baseboards baseboard

Always do the baseboards first, (with the rag mop) and make sure that the mop is wet enough (but not soaking) to actually clean the baseboards. Do the entire house at once. It won’t matter how clean your house is at the end of the day, if your baseboards are still dirty, then your house will look dirty.

Tile Floors

Use the same mop to wash all of your tile floors. You can do these all at once, or if you prefer you can do a floor at a time.

Whether it’s tile or hardwood, be sure to mop around table and chair legs, and under furniture.

Hardwood Floors

When mopping hardwood floors, use about a cap full of Murphy’s Oil Soap in about 6 liters of warm to hot water. You must get the mop head wet and ring it out by hand, again you want it wet…

Hard water Stains Removal Tips

Lilac Clean

Removing hard water stains can be done with several natural cleaners. Start by mixing half water and half Vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture in your tub and shower and wait a few minutes before wiping clean.

You can also try removing hard water stains with a paste made from baking soda and vinegar. Smear the paste over the surface of the stain and let sit for 15 minutes. After the mixture has settled in scrub clean and rinse with water. It’s important that you immediately wipe dry because you don’t want the water sitting on the newly cleaned surface.

Finally you can try removing hard water stains using lemon juice. Spray fresh lemon juice on hard water scale build-up near faucets. Rinse after 10 minutes. Again, make sure to wipe the area clean
